YOUR INFORMATION, EXPLAINED.
Privacy & Cookie
Policy.
How your information is used when you enquire, book a drawing or browse the website.
Last updated: 13 October 2026
The essentials, in plain English.
Your information is used to answer enquiries, arrange bookings and create the work you request. We do not sell personal information or send unsolicited promotional emails.
1. Who is responsible for your information?
This policy explains how Julian Buss, trading as Jules Cartoonist, handles personal information when you browse the website, enquire about a drawing, commission artwork or book live drawing at an event.
Data controller: Julian Buss, trading as Jules Cartoonist, a UK-based caricature and cartoon illustration business.
Email: julesthecartoonist@gmail.com · Telephone: 07808 169758. Please use these details for privacy questions or requests about your information.
This notice covers jules4cartoons.co.uk website services and cookie controls, as explained below.
2. Information we collect
Enquiries and bookings: your name, email address, telephone number, company or organisation, messages, event date, venue and location, delivery details and information about the work you want. This may be supplied through the website, by email or telephone, or through Facebook, Instagram and advertising enquiry forms.
Drawing references: photographs you send or agree to have taken at an event, names and the interests or other details you ask us to include in the artwork. These can relate to you or to someone you are commissioning a drawing of.
Orders and correspondence: quotes, proofs, approvals, invoices, payment records and communications needed to complete the work.
Website information: technical information such as IP addresses, browser details and access or security logs may be processed by the website’s hosting and security services.
Please send only the information needed for the drawing or booking. If you provide someone else’s information, make sure you have an appropriate basis for doing so and help them understand this policy. For children’s photographs, please involve their parent or guardian.
3. Why we use it and our lawful basis
To answer an enquiry, prepare a quote and fulfil a booking or commission: taking steps at your request before entering a contract, or performing that contract.
To create drawings of other people from the references supplied: legitimate interests in providing the commissioned artwork, balanced against the interests and rights of the person depicted. Where consent is needed, we will obtain it.
To manage correspondence, prevent misuse, resolve problems and protect the website: legitimate interests in running and protecting the business.
To keep records required for tax, accounting or other legal duties: compliance with a legal obligation.
Optional cookies and analytics: consent where required. You can withdraw consent through the relevant cookie controls; withdrawal does not affect lawful use before you withdrew it.
We do not use enquiry contact details to send newsletters or unsolicited promotional emails, and we do not sell your enquiry information or use it for unrelated marketing. If essential booking or delivery details are not supplied, we may be unable to provide the service.
4. Photographs, drawings and the public gallery
Reference photographs, event photographs and drawings can identify a person even where their name is not included. They are handled as personal information where the person can be identified.
Photographs and personal details supplied for a drawing are used to prepare the commissioned artwork, communicate about proofs and fulfil the request. Please send only what is needed, and involve a parent or guardian where children’s photographs are concerned.
Creating commissioned artwork and using an identifiable photograph or drawing in a public gallery are different purposes. Any public use must have an appropriate lawful basis; contact us if you would like to discuss whether your picture will be displayed.
If a photograph or drawing of you appears on the website and you have a concern, email us with a link or description so we can identify it and consider your request. A public image may also have been copied or shared independently by other people.
5. Who information may be shared with
Customer enquiries and bookings are handled by the owner of Jules Cartoonist. We do not sell personal information.
Information may be processed by trusted service providers needed to operate the business and fulfil your request, including website hosting and security, email, analytics and advertising platforms, and printers or delivery services where relevant to your order.
Our published contact email uses Gmail, so messages sent to that address are also handled through Google’s email services. Google and Meta may process information where their services are used.
If you submit an enquiry through a Facebook or Instagram lead form, Meta processes your submission under its own privacy notices. We receive the details you submit and use them to answer your enquiry, check availability, prepare a quote or arrange a booking.
We may disclose information where legally required. Some providers may process information outside the UK; where applicable, appropriate data protection safeguards are required. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data.
6. How long information is kept
Enquiries that do not result in a booking: generally retained for up to 12 months after the last communication, then deleted during regular records housekeeping.
Bookings, commissions and accounting records: relevant information may be kept longer where necessary for accounting, tax, contractual or legal purposes, including an unresolved complaint or claim.
Reference photographs and drawing files: kept only for as long as reasonably needed for the commission and related purposes described in this policy. Contact us if you would like to discuss deletion of a reference photograph or the retention of a particular drawing file.
We do not retain personal information longer than reasonably necessary. Backup copies may take longer to cycle out after information is removed from active systems.
7. Looking after your information
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure. Access to customer enquiry and booking information is limited to the business owner, subject to processing by the providers described above.
No website, email service or storage system can guarantee absolute security. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information in an enquiry or reference photograph; contact us first if your project involves particularly sensitive material.
8. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access your personal information, correct inaccurate information, have it erased, restrict its use or receive certain information in a portable format.
You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and to direct marketing. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw that consent. Some rights have exceptions, including where records must be kept by law.
To make a request, email julesthecartoonist@gmail.com or call 07808 169758. We may need enough information to confirm your identity. Requests are normally answered within one month; permitted extensions and any applicable exceptions will be explained.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. You are welcome to raise your concern with us first, but you do not have to do so before contacting the ICO.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser. Similar technologies can also store or access information on your device. Some support a service you request; others can be used for preferences, measurement or advertising.
WordPress sign-in and administration: cookies may maintain an authorised login, check whether cookies work and remember an administrator’s display preferences. These are relevant when you sign in; ordinary visitors do not need a WordPress account to view the public pages.
Public gallery: the category filters and image viewer operate within the page. Browsing the gallery does not require a customer account.
Only strictly necessary storage can be used without consent unless another legal exemption applies. Optional tracking that requires consent must wait until you have made that choice. Merely continuing to browse is not consent.
10. Google Fonts and external links
The website loads its display fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser contacts Google to fetch the font files, exposing technical connection information such as your IP address and browser request details. Loading fonts is distinct from the use of analytics or advertising cookies.
Social media, YouTube and Google Reviews links take you to services operated by other organisations. Those services may process information and use cookies under their own notices when you visit them.
All artwork is loaded from jules4cartoons.co.uk.
11. Cookies on the live website
Google Analytics is used on the live website to understand which pages visitors use and how they find the site. Google may process technical information associated with these visits. Google tag and advertising services may also measure advertising activity.
Where consent is required, non-essential analytics and marketing technologies must only be used after you give that consent.
The enquiry form asks for your name, email address, telephone number, subject and message, with optional product code and file upload. This policy describes how Jules Cartoonist uses those details; Google’s services and other external platforms also have their own privacy notices.
12. Cookie choices and changes to this policy
You can review and remove cookies in your browser’s privacy settings. Blocking cookies needed for a requested service can prevent that service from working. Where a website offers a consent panel, use it to reject optional cookies or change a previous choice.
We may update this policy when business practices, website services or legal requirements change. The date at the top shows when this version was last updated. Contact Jules using the details above if you need more information.
